Where Is Shame Influencing You?
The Generous Husband
“Shame tries to shackle us to who we were to keep us from becoming who we are.” ~ Live in Grace, Walk in Love: A 365-Day Journey by Bob Goff
I talk a lot here about how our past hurts our lives and marriages. This quote is a brilliant example of how that happens.
I’ve tracked plenty of what I do or don’t do back to shame in my past. For example, when I was in school and wore shorts one day, a group of kids made fun of my legs. I didn’t wear shorts again for years. How silly is that?
What do you not do with your wife that is driven by shame from your past? What do you do that is driven by shame?
Of course, we don’t always see the cause and effect here, which makes it really tricky. This is why it’s wise to regularly consider your actions and ask yourself what motivated them. If you find something motivated by shame, deal with the shame so you are free to do what you want. And what your wife wants!
BTW, shame can have a big negative impact on your sex life!
