Testosterone Is Not Always Your Friend
The Generous Husband
Testosterone is great. It makes us feel strong. It pushes us to embrace adventure and challenge. And it fuels a sex drive that results in all kinds of fun and builds intimacy with our wives. But testosterone is a two-sided coin and some of its motivation is harmful to our marriages and should be resisted.
Being aggressive with your wife is a bad plan. At best it puts her off and worse it makes her afraid of you. If you get aggressive during arguments she may well back down, but that doesn’t mean you “won”; it means you bullied her into silence.
When you get cut off in traffic, your testosterone-fueled anger can make you do stupid things. If your wife is with you, I assure you she will not be impressed by such a display. Women are, compared to men, oversensitive to expressions of anger and aggression and seeing you being more aggressive than she thinks the situation warrants only reduces you in her eyes.
Then there’s sex. Some women love being “taken” by their husband and others enjoy him letting his strong sexual urges show during sex. But some women are totally freaked out by this and even those who enjoy a bit of it have a limit. It’s far sexier for her to know you have a massive drive for her and are working to control it for her sake.
