The number one rule for Christian Dating is to discern how much your potential partner loves Jesus. That’s right, the more your partner loves Jesus, the higher the probability you will be getting yourself into a Godly relationship, which could one day lead to a Godly marriage blessed with Godly children raised in a Christ centered household.
During the years I was married, before the Lord took my wife home in 2017, I had no issues playing second fiddle to Christ. For Jesus himself declared in Matthew 22:37 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
Now what does it mean to love Jesus? John 14:15 has the answer, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments”, and what exactly are Jesus’ commandments? The following link summarizes the commands of Christ quite well, and are really good indicators of whether you are dealing with a Godly person or not.
Let’s examine three of Jesus’ commands from the list:
1. Do not Lust
2. Beware of Covetousness
3. Forgive Offenders
If the person you are dating, constantly violates any of these three commands, run for the hills, because these are giant red flags. No true born again Christian habitually engages in these un-Godly activities.
Rather, anyone born again of God’s Holy Spirit, exhibits the fruits of the Holy Spirit, see Galatians 5:22-23.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
To sum it up, the #1 Rule for Christian Dating is to look for Christ in the other person and the indication of someone conforming (it’s a process) to the image of Christ, is someone that walks in love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
